Privacy Policy - Deepfake Detection

Last Updated: July 27, 2025

We care about your privacy. Here's how we protect your data when you use our deepfake detection tool.

We built Deepfake Detection to help you identify fake content. But we also built it to respect your privacy.

We don't save your files. We don't sell your data. We just help you detect deepfakes safely.

1. Who We Are

Deepfake Detection is your free AI-powered tool for identifying manipulated media. We're a team of AI researchers and cybersecurity experts dedicated to fighting misinformation. Our tool helps you verify the authenticity of images, videos, and audio files. You can find us at deepfakedetection.io.

2. What We Collect (And What We Don't)

We keep data collection super simple. Here's exactly what happens when you use our detector:

Your Uploaded Files

When you upload an image, video, or audio file, we temporarily process it to analyze for deepfake indicators. We delete your files immediately after analysis.

Example: If you check a photo for authenticity, we analyze it, show you the results, then permanently delete the file from our servers.

Basic Usage Info

We track how many detections are performed each day. This helps us maintain service quality. We don't track who you are - just that someone used the detector.

Example: We might see '1000 detections today' but we won't know they came from you specifically.

Technical Stuff

Your browser automatically shares basic info like your IP address and device type. This is standard for all websites and helps our tool work properly.

Example: Your browser tells us you're using Safari on a Mac, so we can ensure our detector displays correctly.

What We DON'T Collect

  • Your name or email address
  • The content of your personal files after analysis
  • Your location or address
  • Your phone number
  • Any passwords or login info
  • Your social media accounts

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data for three simple reasons:

To Detect Deepfakes

When you upload a file, our AI analyzes it for signs of manipulation. This happens in real-time and helps you identify fake content.

Your file goes through our detection engine, gets analyzed by multiple AI models, then we show you the authenticity score and detailed report.

To Keep Our Tool Working

We monitor how our detector performs to fix bugs and improve accuracy. If something breaks, we want to know so we can fix it fast.

We track things like detection speed, accuracy rates, and error reports. This helps us make Deepfake Detection better for everyone.

To Improve Detection

We look at general usage patterns to enhance our AI models and add new features. This helps us stay ahead of evolving deepfake technology.

If we see new types of deepfakes emerging, we can update our models to better detect them.

4. How Long We Keep Your Data

We don't hoard your information. Here's our simple data timeline:

  • Your Uploaded Files: Deleted immediately after analysis - We process your file, show you the detection results, then delete your file. We don't need to keep it.
  • Usage Statistics: Kept for 12 months - We keep anonymous usage data for one year to spot trends and improve our detector. After 12 months, we delete it.
  • Technical Logs: Kept for 7 days - Server logs help us fix technical problems quickly. We automatically delete logs after 7 days to protect your privacy.

5. Legal Stuff (GDPR Article 6)

If you're in Europe, GDPR gives you extra privacy rights. Here's our legal basis for processing your data:

  • Legitimate Interest: We process your detection requests because you want to verify content authenticity. This is our legitimate business interest. You came to our website to check if content is fake. Processing your files is necessary to give you what you asked for.
  • Performance of Service: When you use our free detection tool, we need to analyze your files to provide the service you requested. You can't get deepfake detection results without us processing your uploaded media. It's essential to the service.

6. Your Privacy Rights

You have control over your data. Here's what you can do:

  • Access Your Data: Ask us what data we have about you. Since we don't store your files, there probably isn't much to see. Email us and we'll tell you exactly what we know.
  • Delete Your Data: Ask us to delete any data we have about you. We'll remove everything except what we legally need to keep. Contact us and we'll delete your information within 30 days.
  • Stop Processing: Ask us to stop processing your data. Keep in mind this means you won't be able to use our detector anymore. Email us and we'll stop processing your future requests.
  • Fix Wrong Data: If we have incorrect information about you, ask us to fix it. Though since we don't store personal info, this rarely applies. Let us know what's wrong and we'll correct it.
  • Move Your Data: Ask for a copy of your data in a standard format. You can then take it to another service if you want. We'll export whatever data we have in a readable format.

7. AI and Automated Decisions

Our deepfake detector uses AI, but it doesn't make decisions about you as a person:

Our AI only analyzes whether uploaded content has been manipulated. It doesn't profile you, score you, or make judgments about you. The AI just examines your files for signs of deepfake technology. You're always in control of what you check and can ignore our results anytime.

8. Cookies and Website Analytics

We use minimal tracking to keep our detector running smoothly:

Essential Cookies

Purpose: Keep our website working properly

These cookies help our detector load correctly and maintain your session. You can't turn these off if you want to use our tool.

Examples: Session cookies, security cookies, load balancing cookies

Analytics Cookies

Purpose: Understand how people use our detector

We use privacy-focused analytics to see which features are popular. This helps us improve the tool without tracking you personally.

Examples: Anonymous usage statistics, feature usage tracking

Cookie Control: You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings. Essential cookies are required for the detector to work.

9. Who We Share Data With

We're very careful about who gets access to your information:

Our AI Models

Purpose: Process your files for deepfake detection

Your uploaded files are analyzed by our secure AI systems. The models only see your file temporarily during analysis.

Security Partners

Purpose: Protect against cyber attacks

We use services like Cloudflare to protect our site from attacks. They might see your IP address but not your uploaded files.

Legal Authorities

Purpose: Comply with the law

We'll only share data if legally required by a valid court order. We'll tell you if this happens unless legally prohibited.

We NEVER Share:

  • Your uploaded files with third parties
  • Your personal data with advertisers
  • Your information with data brokers
  • Your detection results with anyone

10. Children's Privacy

Deepfake Detection is designed for users aged 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you're a parent and think your child has used our tool, contact us and we'll delete any data we might have.

11. If Something Goes Wrong

If there's ever a data breach (though we work hard to prevent them), we'll notify affected users within 72 hours as required by law. We'll tell you exactly what happened, what data was affected, and what we're doing to fix it. Since we delete files immediately after analysis, the risk is minimal.

12. International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you're using our tool from another country, your data will be processed in the US. We ensure all international transfers comply with privacy laws like GDPR. We use standard contractual clauses to protect your data during transfer.

13. How We Protect Your Data

We take security seriously. Here's how we keep your data safe:

  • Encryption Everywhere: All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Your files are protected from upload to deletion.
  • Immediate Deletion: We delete your files right after analysis. No long-term storage means less risk.
  • Secure Infrastructure: Our servers are protected by industry-standard security measures and regular security audits.
  • Access Controls: Only essential team members can access our systems, and we log all access for security.

14. Changes to This Policy

We might update this privacy policy as our tool evolves. If we make big changes, we'll post a notice on our website. The 'Last Updated' date at the top shows when we last changed this policy. Keep checking back to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.

15. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you live in California, you have additional privacy rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect
  • Right to delete your personal information
  • Right to opt-out of data sales (we don't sell your data anyway)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

We don't sell your personal information to anyone. Ever.
